Note: In early drafts of this book an appendix incorporated a number of extensive ahnentafels of the spouses of certain descendants. The ahnentafels were deleted from the final draft because we did not have the time or desire to perform the additional research required to validate their accuracy; it would easily have taken twice again as much effort as we have already spent. We kept the related references, however, to provide a head start for those who may wish to research the ancestry of spouses, and that is why there are such a great number of references listed below. Toward this objective, whenever an ahnentafel was deleted, the references were recited in a footnote to the relevant individual.
